Peering at a Chicago sunrise over Lake Michigan, a Peregrine Falcon takes its morning flight. As Peregrine falcons are the fastest clocked bird in the world, it is a wonder how John Harrison snapped this photo. The subtle and blending sunrise tones contrasted with the stark and detailed bird of prey. National Geographic measured the highest speed of 242 mph. The Peregrine falcon can be found on every continent except Antarctica. They are an example of a successful urban wildlife range due to the abundance of prey (pigeons and ducks) and the ability to nest in high buildings. Being majestic and stealthy only helps.
